Good Morning Surrey,

There is a particular Surrey Monday moment when the kettle clicks off, the school bag is still open, and someone remembers the A3 might not be behaving later. That is the sort of week this is, not dramatic, but full of small things that matter if they catch you at the wrong time.

Today’s edition is about checking the useful details before they become annoying ones: jobs, roadworks, fares, food support, school forms and a few decent reasons to leave the house.

In today’s edition

  • M&S is recruiting for its new Godalming Foodhall

  • A3/A322 Dennis Roundabout repairs begin this week

  • Energy bills, Bank Rate and rail fares in the national Surrey strip

  • School Streets, half-term food vouchers and late admissions

  • Priscilla in Woking, family theatre, music, markets, jobs and local homes

Let’s take a look.

M&S hiring starts for new Godalming Foodhall

Source: M&S Godalming

M&S is recruiting for its new Foodhall in Godalming, at the former Homebase site on Woolsack Way. The store plan has been billed as creating up to 80 jobs, giving a long-empty retail unit a practical second act.Live roles include customer assistant posts for the new store.

  • Closing dates in the current listings fall in May.

  • The new Foodhall is part of the wider plan to reuse the former Homebase site.

  • Useful for local jobseekers, and anyone who has been watching that unit with mild retail curiosity.

A3 and A322 Dennis Roundabout repairs begin

National Highways starts concrete repair works at the A3/A322 Dennis Roundabout in Guildford this week. The first overnight closures run from Monday 11 May to Friday 15 May, with further overnight works later in May.

  • The A3 itself remains open during the works.

  • Side roads, slip roads and restrictions will still affect journeys.

  • Works are overnight, so late drivers are most likely to feel it.

  • Check before travelling, especially if your evening relies on the A3 behaving itself.

University of Surrey Wetherspoon now listed for July opening

The new Wetherspoon at the University of Surrey is now listed by the pub group for a Tuesday 7 July opening. The University had previously described a May 2026 opening, so this is a calendar update rather than a new announcement.

And Finally,

This week’s small advantage goes to the person who checks before leaving: the road, the school form, the bill date, the ticket page. If you spot a closure, opening, useful service or local oddity we should include next time, reply and point us towards it.

Thank you for reading. let’s chat next Friday.
