Good Morning Surrey,

At 7.05 on Saturday morning, a hose clicks on in a Surrey garden. A neighbour glances over the fence, a phone comes out, and suddenly nobody is quite sure whether the rule applies here or three postcodes away.

That uncertainty is the point of this Weekender. Water restrictions depend on your supplier, while parking refunds, weekend bookings and a 16-mile walk each come with their own fine print. We’ve pulled the useful bits into one calm read before you set off.

In today’s edition

  • Which drought restrictions apply to your water supplier.

  • Planning consultations and local support updates.

  • Free family activities, a 16-mile walk and Cranleigh’s farm and food festival.

  • A Saturday market, two dining ideas and local vacancies.

Let’s take a look.

QVH joins existing Surrey hospital group

Source: BBC

Queen Victoria Hospital has joined the group formed by Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals and Royal Surrey. The organisations say the arrangement will support closer collaboration while preserving their individual identities and accountability.

  • Queen Victoria Hospital joins the established hospital group following approval

  • Each organisation retains its own board, leadership, identity and accountability.

  • The group can collaborate in staff development, research and clinical networks.

Trust leadership rated “requires improvement”

The Care Quality Commission has rated leadership at Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust as “requires improvement”. The finding relates to the trust-level leadership assessment and should not be read as an identical rating for every hospital department or clinical service.

  • The assessment concerns how the trust is led and governed overall.

  • The regulator has identified improvements required from the trust.

National headlines for Surrey

Half of England enters drought

Seven areas of England have been declared in drought, including areas serving parts of the wider South East. Restrictions are determined by individual water suppliers, so there is no single Surrey-wide rule covering every household.

Social-care reform timetable accelerated

The government has brought forward the timetable for its social-care commission and launched a wider public consultation. This is a reform process, not a completed agreement on care funding, eligibility or what individuals may eventually pay.

Views sought on planning controls for small HMOs

Reigate and Banstead Borough Council is consulting on proposed planning controls for smaller houses in multiple occupation. The measure is not currently in force. The consultation runs from 30 July to 24 September 2026. It concerns conversions into HMOs occupied by three to six people. These conversions would require a full planning application in the covered area.

Woking begins first formal Local Plan stage

Woking Borough Council has opened the initial formal scoping stage for its new Local Plan. Residents, businesses and community groups are being asked what the plan should consider before detailed policies or possible development sites are settled.

This is the opening stage of a longer process, rather than a consultation on settled development proposals.

Funding for financial-resilience services

Surrey County Council is inviting organisations and consortia to apply for funding to deliver financial-resilience support and improve community coordination. This is funding for eligible organisations, rather than a grant individual households can claim directly.

  • Route 1 applications close on 13 August 2026.

  • Applicants must meet the organisational and partnership requirements.

  • The funding is intended to strengthen coordinated local support.

  • Households for immediate help should use the council’s existing support routes.

Runnymede cookery workshops

Runnymede Borough Council’s community cookery programme is inviting local residents to register their interest in selected workshops. Availability differs between sessions, so check the individual listing to see which dates are still accepting interest.
