Good Morning Surrey,
This evening, someone near Wisley will meet a familiar road sign and discover that familiarity is not quite the same as permission to proceed. Elsewhere, a parent will be weighing summer plans while two consultation clocks quietly run down.
Today’s edition separates what needs action now from what can wait: routes, deadlines, family support and the week’s places to go. Which small decision will make the rest of your week run more smoothly?
In today’s edition,
Overnight closures begin around the A3 and M25 Junction 10
Waverley and Caterham consultations close today
Summer camps, SEND support and the library reading challenge
Theatre, family days and five markets for the week ahead
A newly opened Farnham restaurant and local job deadlines
Let’s take a look.

News
Closures begin around the A3 and M25 Junction 10
Overnight closures affecting the A3 and M25 Junction 10 slip roads are scheduled from Monday 27 to Friday 31 July. Drivers travelling near Wisley, Ockham and Cobham should check the latest arrangements before setting out, as road plans can change at short notice.
Closures and signed diversions are planned overnight.
The affected area includes Junction 10 and connecting A3 slip roads.
Journeys through Wisley, Ockham and Cobham may take longer.
Check again on the evening you travel, even if you checked yesterday.
The route is clear in principle. In practice, diversion signs do prefer to unfold the plot one junction at a time.

National headlines for Surrey
Life-sciences investment includes a £500m Windlesham research hub

More than £3bn of UK public-private life-sciences investment has been reported over the past year. The Surrey connection is UCB’s £500m research and development hub in Windlesham, part of a wider national programme covering investment, medicines and future skills.
The £3bn figure is reported investment across the UK, not a Surrey-only total.
UCB’s Windlesham research hub represents £500m of activity in the county.
A national skills plan aims to support 66,000 additional roles by 2035.
No realised local job total has yet been attributed to the Windlesham investment.
The investment is substantial. The sensible question is how much of that ambition becomes visible locally, in jobs, skills and activity.

County Updates
Final day to respond on Waverley’s new Local Plan
Waverley’s consultation on the scope of its new Local Plan closes today, Monday 27 July. The plan will eventually shape development and planning policy across Farnham, Godalming, Haslemere, Cranleigh and the surrounding borough.
Consultations seldom suffer from excessive brevity. Their deadlines, mercifully, do.

Caterham empty-shop consultation closes tonight/

Source: tandridge.gov.uk
Tandridge’s consultation on proposals intended to bring empty Caterham shops back into use closes at 11.59pm tonight. The proposals include possible auction powers, although those powers would apply only if the scheme proceeds.
The central question is whether the proposed powers would help return empty premises to use. Not yet approved, the consultation is the moment to say what you think.

Community Digest
Local groups prepare to take over community buildings
Community organisations across Reigate and Banstead are progressing plans to take responsibility for a number of halls, scout huts and sports buildings. The programme includes associated grant support, although the timing and conditions differ for each property.
The useful questions are practical: who holds the keys, who meets the running costs, and who inherits the cupboard of twenty-seven unmatched folding chairs?
Mole Valley funding available for neighbourhood projects
Community projects in parts of Mole Valley can apply for support through the Neighbourhood Fund. The next application deadlines are 1 October 2026 and 25 January 2027, leaving time to turn a good local idea into a properly costed proposal.

And Finally,
Late July in Surrey rewards a certain preparedness: one eye on the road signs, another on the weather, and a third, somehow, on the family diary. We hope this edition makes the week a little easier to arrange. Reply with a useful local tip, correction or question we ought to pursue.
